The worlds largest living organism. It is neither the tallest nor the widest tree. It is just the most massive.

Found in the Giant Forest Grove in Sequoia National Park. I couldn't get the entire tree in one shot. The image is a composite of 5 pictures.

Am I ready for this?
Absolutely not... But it is a goal.
Why am I thinking about this already? It is a requirement. If you want to climb Whitney at any time during the season you need to submit your permit application during the month of February for the lottery. If you don't want to wait for the season to begin, you can pick up permits on a first come first serve basis. Too bad Whitney will be under several feet of snow.

I'm starting my training tomorrow.

California Topo's

I was surfing around the REI.com the other day. I was actually looking for a Brunton compass with an adjustable declination. Before I found that, I saw the National Geographic State Series Topo Map Software for California. I just happen to have a $100 gift certificate that I should have used.

Hopefully this will motivate me to get outdoors again.

It came about an hour ago. I've already installed it and created my first set of maps. I cheated. I already knew how to use the software, having previously owned TOPO! Yosemite versions before the software was taken over by National Geographic and integrated into their state series.
