Supercuts

The weirdest thing happened to me today. I went to supercuts after work to get a trim. There was an incredibly effeminate Hispanic man giving haircuts. A couple of other Hispanic guys just hanging out.
When I arrived, there was a good looking, but annoying girl, talking about her "American Idol" audition while the Hispanic stylist cut her hair. The stylist saw me enter and directed me to a chair next to one occupied by his friend. After I sat down, the friend turned to me and showed me a page of the car magazine that he was looking at. He pointed to a male model on the page and talked about how buffed the model looked. I said to him jokingly that my muscles are bigger than that. He then said a couple of times that he likes big muscles. I thought that comment was a little queer, I shooked it off and attributed it to his broken English.

Just then, the girl finished her long winded AI story as the stylist cut the last few strands of hair. The stylist motioned to me to replace her in the chair. My time in the chair was rather uneventful, and the stylist did a nice job.

After the haircut, I was going towards Astor Place to possibly run some errands when the weather turned a bit more sour. I decided to abort and go back home. It was then that I noticed that the stylist's friend was following me. Once again, he said to me, "I like big muscles" a couple of times. He then said "I go home with you." I ignored him and kept walking. He was still following me. When I turned around, he once again said that he wanted to go home with me. When I asked him why, he again said "I like big muscles" a couple of times. The last time he said it, he was holding his crotch. It took a while, but it finally sunk into my thick skull. The guy didn't want to come home with me to just hang out... I politely explained to him that I was not gay, and he finally seemed to take the hint. I took a rather circuitous route home, that included a hour hiding out in a Starbucks reading the NY Times.

I will never go to Supercuts on University Place between 10th and 11th Streets.

Peets and Starbucks

For those of you who say Peets and Starbucks don't have interrelated histories, read this article from peets.com.

For those of you too lazy to click the link, here is a synopsis:
Peets and Starbucks were separate companies.
Starbucks bought Peets from it's owners (Sal Bonavita who bought it from Alfred Peet).
The combined company later sold Starbucks.
So, the original Starbucks in now Peets.

From it, you can also figure out why there was a Starbuck in Davis and Sockton before there was a Starbucks in the Bay Area and why it seemed to blow up in the bay area. (Hint: Noncompete Agreement).

It is also probably true that Peets taught Starbucks how to roast coffee.

Was reading a Court TV article about a project involving the wrongly accused and exonerated (click here to read) a phrase I was completely unfamiliar with, "tree jumpers."

Yes, I may have been able to determine the meaning using the content of the story, but I would not have been as positive as I am now. In a past life, prior to the internet, I had no resources available to me to determine the true meaning of the phrase. I don't have any close friends or relatives that have been to prison. I do know and have met people that have been to prison, but the status of my relationship to them precludes me from calling them up and saying "... By the way, what is the definition of 'tree jumper'?." Nor do I own a prison lingo dictionary. Is there a direct conection between "tree jumpers" and sex offenders? If there is, I don't see it.

Typing "tree jumper" prison lingo into the Google search box immediatly returned a ton of links with the actual definition. If your too lazy to go to google and type it in, <click here >. If you are really lazy, <click here> to goto the definition page.

While checking out a board that I look at regularly, I found a test that grades your personality. Unlike other personality test, this one is not that sappy. It recommends OSs based on your results. If you want to take the test yourself, click here. If you want to see all the results and grade your own personality, click here.

Just read an article put out by that AP. The hilarious article is about Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria being drafted into the military. The part about the Princess being drafted wasn't too funny.

Part of the article that states that serving her military time, she "will go to the United States to study conflict resolution in Washington." Now that was funny...

While surfing the web, I came across this site: www.gnome-girl.com.

One of the first thing you see is a three pictures of a really hot chick. She reminded me of somebody, but I couldn't remember who. I looked further into the site, and realized that it wasn't the site owner. It was Liz Phair.

How could I forget Liz Phair? She is only the hottest woman in music, and I own three of her albums.

These images are not linked

Her seminal album was her first: Exile in Guyville. It is an album filled with songs about female angst and sexuality. Her third album was the worst. After getting married and having a child, it seems like she mellowed a little too much.

One of my former housemates actually went to highschool with her in the suburbs of chicago. He said he didn't know her very well. He thought that she bit&$ and would be the least likely to make socially relevent music.

Click on the thumbnails to see larger pictures. These images were originally found at liz-phair.com. It is a fine site, but I believe it was created by a fan.

This is the first day of the rest of my life.

I have decided to make a committed change in my life. It is mostly about my physical well being, but also I believe that it will help me out with my mental state by giving myself a positive self image.

By displaying it on a forum like this I believe that it will help me be true to myself. Although it is on the web, it gives me a slight sense of anonymity (even though the unique url does contain my actual first name). It does give me a bit of anonymity because very few of you (if there are any) will actually know my physical self.

The committed life change is actually about my physical being. I am currently a hulking individual (physical stats given later). My plan of attack is the change my entire lifestyle. In a sense, it might just be considered a diet to most of you, but I feel that diet is a rather dirty word. It like rules are made to be broken.

Here are some of the rules that I will follow:

Exercise
1. At least 5 days a week
2. 15 minutes a day to start, an hour in perpetuity

Healthy Meals
1. Eat at most 3 reasonably portioned meals per day.
2. Last meals must be eaten at no later than 8:00 pm.
3. No more than one small snack per day.

Non sedentary lifestyle
1. At most 6 hours of television per week (pick the shows that I really want to watch and only watch them allowing for the occasional basketball or football game).
2. Limit internet use to less than two hours a day. (This may be the most difficult part).

Try to live within the confines of this guideline.
1. Must not violate the rules more than one a week. Remember rules are made to be broken. At least all but this one.

My current stats:
Height - 6'1"
Weight - 300 lbs
Waist - 50" (measured at belly button)
Neck - 18.5"

Part of this is also inline with my goal to reach the top of Mt. Whitney by the end of September this year.

Moveable Type

I just installed Movable Type, and I'm am currently in the process of evaluating it.

I am currently blogging with <B2> I initially installed on my local server (Windows 2000 Server).

The server had PHP and MySQL installed, but didn't have Perl. I didn't want to install Active State Perl. It would add another process on top of an already overloaded server. The server is also connected to the internet via a DSL connection with only a 128 Kb uplink. Since the DSL modem is connected to my provider (pacbell now SBC) via PPPoE and dynamic IP, I needed to use a DDNS service to re-associate my domain name with my IP address every time it changed. DNS is provided via ZoneEdit and DirectUpdate DDNS client. Slow and reasonably unreliable.

Since I use my website for professional purposes, I decided that I need a more reliable solution. After searching for a couple of days, I decided to use Dream Host. Free domain name registration $9.95/month. The move to the hosted site included other perks, like the ability to use Perl coded publishing solutions.

I'm currently in the process of evaluating MT. If it compares favorably to the current system, I will switch to it permanently. My first impressions are that it has a better interface and more powerful interface.
